The Illusion of Fear
So, I realized this post probably should have been the first one I published, because ultimately it describes my book and the inspiration behind it. (Oops).
Unfortunately, like many black and brown women I grew up with some childhood trauma, and I’m still trying to heal from it. That’s where the idea for this book came from. I’m sure everyone has watched or heard of Cinderella, and while I wasn’t tasked with cleaning the house from top to bottom, or serving a duo of stepsiblings, I did have what I called an “evil stepmother”. Me and my brother sometimes would go to school and other places with visible scars and bruises on our faces. This happened for 7 years. Needless to say I had fear instilled in me from an early age.
As I grew older, I realized just how much growing up that way influenced the way I saw myself and others. I knew I couldn’t be the only person that was struggling in this area, and this book was born. In this book I reveal some of the raw spots within myself, and hopefully it can help you to face some of those giants within yourself as well.
